30-MINUTE INTERACTIVE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSION

Using Thinking Moves to Reach Deeper Scientific Understanding

Create engaging opportunities to master new concepts and shift the cognitive load to students with focused thinking moves. In this 30-minute professional development workshop, we'll focus on the 8 Thinking Moves featured in Ron Ritchhart's book Making Thinking Visible. We'll focus on ways to make thinking moves a shared instructional practice and a common part of how students learn to deepen their own understanding as scientists and engineers.

In this interactive session we’ll learn:

  • what the 8 Thinking Moves are
  • how each move supports the development of understanding
  • how to embed Thinking Moves into your classroom routines

Learn how each thinking move can be used as a tool to deepen students’ understanding of new concepts in science.
