Finding a Grant

STEM improvement grants are available from private companies and federal initiatives. Assess your school or district’s need and start locally. Often rotary clubs, charitable trusts, community groups or business associations offer education grants. Here are some organizations that provide grants for innovative classroom science programming:

Hardscrabble Education Fund Grant
Gelfand Family Charitable Trust
The Lynch Foundation
National Science Teachers Association
Lynn Business Education Foundation
Intel Community Grants
Dominion K-12 Educational Partnership
American Honda Foundation
U.S. Department of Education
NIH’s Science Education Partnership Award

Also see award opportunities listed by the Massachusetts Association of Science Teachers or search through the Foundation Center.

Organizations may offer ongoing or one-time grants. Grants are often a short-term solution to financing change in your science program. Few grants are successful without including a reasonable plan for long-term sustainability within your school or district’s budget.
