Teachers that use KnowAtom see results.
In September 2010, the Massachusetts Governor’s STEM Advisory Council set the goal to increase the number of students scoring “proficient” or “advanced” on the MCAS by 20 percentage points within six years. After just five months of using KnowAtom, Lincoln-Thomson Elementary in Lynn, Massachusetts, increased standardized test (MCAS) scores by 33 percentage points.
Lincoln Thomson exceeded the governor’s goal by fifty percent. The school exceeded the state performance averages in all subcategories in 2010. Most notably the students at Lincoln-Thomson scoring in the “advanced” category increased by 13 percentage points, accounting for 28 percent of their student population, nearly doubling the state average for students scoring “advanced” proficiency, (15 percent). In addition, the number of students at Lincoln-Thomson who received a “warning” score was reduced to zero.
In its first year of using KnowAtom, Tracy School in Lynn, Massachusetts, saw fifth-grade science proficiency rating improve by 120%, reversing a three-year downward trend. In 2010, the positive trend continued widening the proficiency gain to 210% of levels prior to using the KnowAtom system. Tracy met the governor’s goal of increasing science MCAS proficiency by 20 percentage points within two years.
